Back and alive from Bangkok!

Yep I have in fact already been back for 3 days, and had very much wanted to blog and post pics up, but unfortunately, for both many internet users as well as the residents in Taiwan, an earthquake struck, causing a substantial amount of damage including that to telcom cables, so the Inet was slow..... and many sites were inaccessible...

Anyway, this time round, LS, WZ and I went for 6 days and 5 nights. Yes, upped from the 4D3N last year. Well, but i would say, considering the fact that the 2 of them did not exactly want to go sightseeing that much (due to some financial constraints from getting from one point to another), 6D5N was actually a tad too long. In fact, I think 5D4N would have been perfect. Yep, constant walking and shopping and eating can actually be quite strenuous for the body too lol (or so it had that effect on me).

So here's what we roughly did.

Ok, Day 1 we went to the airport to take our flight to Bangkok, flying on Jetstar, and as usual, LS was late. Lol, luckily I set the meeting time to be 2 hours ahead of the flight time is is double the mandatory 1 hour. After arriving at Bangkok's new Survabhumi (sp) airport, which is their new airport, we were persuaded by this lady to take a limo cab instead of joining the long queue to get a meter-taxi. The limo-cab cost 900 baht, and the lady told me that taking a meter cab would only cost 200 baht cheaper. So she told me that this new airport was in fact around 30 more mins away from the city centre compared to the older Don Maung airport, I trusted her words and the 3 of us came to an agreement to spend that "extra" 200 baht to cut the queue. On the last day when we had to take a meter-cab from the hotel to the airport, we were shocked that it only cost 400 baht, not 700 baht. Man were we RIPPED! Grrr... so people please be careful of these "limo-taxi" services (oh and may I add our cab didn't turn out to be that "limo" after all.... it was.... a re-furnished old car :S).

So we got to the hotel, and I remember being in a slumbery mood cause I was falling in and out of sleep on the cab. And when I first opened my eyes after the taxi stopped, I was stunned again. The hotel (Samran Place) looked pretty.... small from the outside. It was definitely a far cry compared to Asia Hotel where LS and I were housed at last year. And I was like "Crap, this better not turn out to be some sleazy cheesy hotel lor, or else this trip is going to be unbearable!". So anyway we lugged out luggage in, checked in and went into our room. And it turned out to be rather decent after all. All the necessary facilities were avaible, and honestly it aint that much smaller than Asia Hotel's room, so there :p/

So we dumped our stuff, and headed straight to MBK which was our fav haunt from lat year, owing to the cheap food and clothes made available there. So we ate at the food court, ordered lots of stuff and only spent a little (after converting to SGD that is). Value! And here's a pic of the 3 of us enjoying a short coffee break after shopping around in MBK for a while (our legs needed a rest)...

Yep, after a while, I guess jet lag started to hit bad, so retired back to hotel early. And we had lots of fun trying to use the self timer function of our cameras and trying to take stupid shots. Here's one of them:

Yep so that was day 1. Day 2, we headed over to their version of the hypermart, called Big C, and that place had this Jap restaurant which we visited last year and where he raved about their Katsu Curry Rice (Curry Pork Rice). He was going on and on about how value-for-money (vfm) and how delicious it was, so he couldn't wait for it. We went there and ordered, u guess it, a SPREAD! Yep, we were def eating like kings there.

Yep, that was a shot of the restaurant name and the 3 of us too.

So we lingered a little, played some games at the arcade there, and went on to do serious shopping at the hypermart. Seriously, they do serve out some pretty decent clothes there. I got myself this pair of dark blue, slightly faded texture jeans (which I am awesomely in love with right now) for only 299 baht, roughly SGD14. I mean, seriously, it is super VFM! Also bought some other pieces of clothing, all only amounting to like less than SGD20 a piece.

Next we headed to a slightly higher end shopping centre, Siam Paragon, supposedly their pride and joy of the city since a considerable amount of work has been done on the SC. I mean, it looks very exquisite and classy which not appearing to be as scary as their Gaysorn Plaza (or our Paragon equivalent). So we went there to take some photos of the nice interior setting.
3rd day. Chatuchak! Yea. Missed it last year when I went, cuase we went on tuesday and came back on friday last year, hence. And boy was I shocked at how much it had expanded. I mean, from recollections in the past, that place was already huge, but now it just seems... "huge-r!" And definitely better renovated and cleaner that the chatuchak I visited several years back. Eh, regrettably I was too busy shopping for quaint souvenirs as well as clothes to take pictures lol. After a long day there, we headed back to MBK to have a late lunch, and we watched "Eragon" at night (yea, LS has a thing for late night movies and he goes on about how watching any movie in the afternoon is robbing it of its "atmosphere" or qi fen). Of course, we had a very sumptious Pizza Hut dinner with the golden cheesy sausage crust and what not. Yum, slap me back to my senses please, the golden cheesy sausage crust option in Singapore costs so much!!!
Day 4. Yes, it was the day where I was feeling super super tired. I guess 3 whole days of up and running around has taken its toll on me. I remember waking up at 8am (Thailand time) which is our usual "revelie" (sp), and we would try to get freshened up by 9am before heading down for our hotel breakfast (which ends at 10am). So on the morning of day 4, after having breakfast, this feeling of exhaustion and immense weariness just overcame me. We went back to the hotel, trying to get our outfits and hairdo's done, but I was just lying on the bed, frozen to what seemed like a slice of heaven at that time. I was so comfortable lying on the bed I just refused to move. I also remember feeling slightly nauseatic as well as feeling an impending headache approaching. And without realising it, I slowly feel asleep. And at around 12 noon, I woke up again. And after much coaxing by LS, I decided to get my ass up and get dressed (with no contacts or much work done to my hair - I just couldn't be bothered).
So we walked over to Big C again. And with the amount of sun shining down on me, I felt even worse upon arriving at the complex. Thankfully, after sitting down for a meal (at KFC no less lol, yes we could have been out of our minds) I felt much better and was able to move around more confortably compared to the morning. We took the day a little slower, hanging around the arcade playing some games, the proceeding to the supermarket section of the hypermart to do some grocery shopping, where we got snacks and some local products to bring home etc etc. And night time, argh, regret not taking a picture too. We had yet another great feast, this time costing even less because we tookaway food from a couple of roadside stalls near the hotel area. We tookaway a packet of Pad Thai each (their version of the fried kway teow which is uber especially when you squeeze the lime juice on top of it and have ample peanut and chili flake garnishings.... ahhhh, the taste!) which cost only SGD 1.50 each, I also had wanton mee (again costing SGD 1.50 or so) and we also bought 2 packets of their fried sea mussels (somewhat like out fried oyster locally) to share, each packet costing around SGD 1 plus too. Seriously, this is the VFM of VFMs.
Day 5. After recovering from the near illness of the previous day, I woke up feeling much better. Yep, had the mood to put on my contacts, do my hair etc before heading out. We went for some last minute shopping in MBK, followed by an area of shophouses called Siam Square. That was also where I got myself my new sling bag which I must say looks pretty good and one which I can definitely see myself using in my uni days since it doesn't look too childish or showy. After some further shopping, we headed back to the hotel to dump our stuff before heading for one last night movie at MBK, a local Thai show called "Khon Fai Bin" which was action packed and quite a nice movie too. Oh we also took some photos of the hotel.
Day 6. Morning flight we had, so we had to wake up rather early that day. After breakfast, we checked out and headed over to the airport where we took our final photos of the trip and also the last few slices of memories. Long, but a very nice trip nevertheless. And def looking forward to another adventure next year (should it be China? or Taiwan? or Korea? or maybe even somewhere further!)

Fun in the Sun (Almost...)

A wild day at Sentosa yesterday, leaving me too exhausted to blog when I came back. Maybe it's because I wasn't feeling too well since last week that's why physcial exertion tires me out rather easily of late.

Anyway after a good night's sleep I'm feeling much better now. Yesterday was so fun, like I said in an earlier post about not going to shopping centres for once and instead enjoying the sun, sand and sea (is it in this order? heh). It was refreshing and in a way, very releasing too. We went to Palawan Beach cuase thew Blue Line queue was too long. And I kind of prefer Palawan to Siloso Beach, cause it's not as crowded and it's not associated with being the "teen" or the "in" beach unlike Siloso is. So there isn't that pressure to "look good" or "dress nice"; you can just let your hair down and be yourself. Even 2 of my other friends who were slightly on the heavier side, who initially had reservations about taking their shirt off, did just that. Me included la, I mean paiseh then paiseh lor, there weren't THAT many people anyway haha... Plus I need a good tan.

Alas, the sun decided to play hide and seek after around 1.5 hours out. But those 90 minutes were really great. We were swimming around in the little (lagoon?) pool of water and attempting to play water volleyball to much failure of course. I definitely would want to do something like that again in the future...

And after that we headed over to Vivocity, but by then my body was almost shut down.... I was just walking around like a mindless body of meat haha. Says a lot about my physical fitness right? :( Lol

After today, it's just another 4 days before I fly off to Bangkok. And I hope to have a very Merry Christmas there.

December Dreaming...

Ok.... so all the duties are out of the way.... and I'm kind of enjoying the sweet retreat I rightfully deserve. Although I haven't really sent my arms in as planned, but argh, that can wait.

So yep, I am officially on leave from yesterday actually, all the way till 26th dec. Following which I will be on medical leave, till 31st dec. So all this roundabouts lead to the point that I will only be back in camp on jan the 3rd. Yipee! Heh heh heh. It's really a good long december "holidays" for me, just like last year, I realised! Yes, with all the offs accumulating last eyar I was practically on a december holiday last year too...

Ok so sweet memories aside... I am like living it up. And going out like quite frequently worz. (And thus spending a lot of money in the process... damn! Whatever happened to trying to control my finances? Lol... I feel like Rebecca Bloomwood in Sophie Kinsella's novels) Yesterday I went to Ray's ctry club to gym and suntan (which didn't work out cuz the clouds decided to come out that day too :( bummer). And after that we decided to go to Maxwell for a late lunch. And it turned out to be a drunch cuz I was driving around lost after missing a left turn. Heh. Yes, that's what one wrong / missed turn can do to you. My poor petrol (and money) down the drain!

But we well rewarded with the uber good food there! I had the nice curry rice which Lionel reccomended, as well as this big fried tofu which can easily rival sakae's! And the sauce... ah..... And I went on to takeaway the uber uber wu xiang/guan chang, as well as the uber uber ham chim pangs! Argh... thinking about all these food is making me drool... and I was still telling myself to control my diet these few days cuz I will be heading to Bangkok soon and I wanna look good in those tight fit shirts/tees. Ok ok... I know I'm a little self indulgent but I'm working hard ok?!

And today, another day out. Bought myself some new shoes! At a very cheap price to boot. LS asked us to go shopping at Woodlands Centre. Quite pitiful that place.... It used to be such a hot hub since the woodlands bus terminal as well as the causeway was there. But today, with Woodlands MRT built as well as the bus terminal shifted there, it has lost its old charm.... But... alas, it's a treasure trove! Yes. There ARE fashionable clothes as well as ncie shoes there... at a very (ok maybe not very) low price! Yes, it's almost a steal... Makes me relook neighbourhood shopping... Hmm. SO like maybe when I need new stuff next time I would head there, or to clementi or to those neighbourhood shopping centres.... cuz u never know what bargains u'll find. Seriously...

And tmr... I'm heading to Sentosa. Yep, to suntan slash play beach volleyball (yes I know I suck but I'll try to look good??? lol) and just have fun with my frens... yep. It's great to actually not hang out at town/marina/vivocity for once (no make that thrice). Yep, hopefully I'll enjoy my day.

6 more days... I can't wait. I'm gonna have a ball of a time!

Dreadful days

Just back from a duty.... and a free (well almost) car serviving provided after the first 1000KM you drive.

But I'm very well friggin tired cause my body and brains were stretched to the limit the past week. Yes, the notorious annual audit check (don't all you office people dread it? ploughing through your stuff scrutinising every single printed document and practice and systems you have in place and trying to squeeze that last rop of sleaze out in an attempt to make you look bad and have to think on your feet for an excuse to cover up the dirt. Gosh the amount of lies that fly out of my mouth!) took place from tuesday to thursday (well the checking of physical ammo at least, the war aint over for the checking of documents which, *gasp* involves only my dept!!), spilling over to friday because of some discrepancies.

Yes, many skeletons were shown the light and dug out from their respective cupboards. My goodness, the amount of trash that can be dug out from all the other depts. This year, the QAS (Quality Assessment Section) from our Base HQ has officially successfully made a killing, with so many findings (and correspondingly, off days for them! WTH! I wanna be in QAS too!!!).

So anyway I was at the forefron of the war, cause apparently the second in command chief inspector decided that I would be the one to clear the stocks with her (by clearing I mean to make sure that the physcial ammunition tallies with the quantities dispalyed on the stockcards as well as the system) and boy, out of 150 items we had 49 showing discrepancies. So many vouchers not keyed, some due to human error but mainly because the system decided to experience some problem and had to shut down a few days prior to the audit check (what nice timing eh?) and argh the story goes on (I shan't try to overwhelm you with my incessant complaints).

And yes, I was there trying to defend the depot as to why each and every individual discrepancy arose. Not easy when you have to convince that shrewd lady (who has already done checks on our depot for 3 years running now) at the same time trying to make the mistakes seem honest (an honest mistake, get it?).

So the biggest nightmare is almost over (well there is still one other discrepancy which my dept and I have yet to account for, I gave up because my brain was so done. Did I mention that I was doing mega combo duties, meaning last friday, monday, wednesday, yesterday and I'm going to be doing duty tomorrow as well so that makes at least a 4 in a row. And on the duty on wednesday, in an attempt to source out the reasons to explain the discrepancies, I did not sleep a wink... ok well maybe just for an hour or so, but discounting that I would have been awake for a good 33.5 hours slogging my arse off for this audit. My efforts better get appreciated or else... Or else I also cannot do anything, LL ST lor) and I am going to damn well enjoy my break when I clear my leave next wednesday. Leave all the way till January. Yes, that would be my great Houdini escape plan... to vanish and not appear till the whole nightmare is over. Hey, I did my part ok? My final (and may I add VERY BIG) contribution to my depot, I covered so many people's arses...

Gonna get some rest, this much bytes of info running thru my brain aint doing me much good. I need to rest, oh and celebrate with my friend tongiht on his successful sloggoing thru NS for 2 years (he got his long lost pink IC yesterday). Mine is coming soon, I can smell it...

Oops I think that was my smelly laundry...
