Hey check out my new blog at terentius86.livejournal.com (now with a 86). Blogspot use until sian liao so thought I might try LJ out. Cheers.
Terence pens his legacy at 3:28 PM Long time gone Haiz. Lazy to update my Perth trip liao lol. So very tired, as usual (Terence Ang fatigue sets in). Anyway I've uploaded 4 albums worth of pics at my facebook so ppl who wanna see where I;ve been during that trip can go to http://www.facebook.com/ and see lor. I think my username is terentius or sth. oops. This kind of thing also can forget haha. So anyway, nth much transpired since I came back from Perth. Not too many things la. Can remember ones are, Lionel's 21st at RSYC (food was damn good albeit a bit too much, and we have a over-caring host to thank that for... hehe no offence ah). What else... watched a couple movies, Fantastic 4 which was quite fantastic (visual wise, let's not get to the acting), Pirates which was quite good too (albeit a little long, but hey, that makes my $9.50 worth it right? Hahahahaha <--- another of Terence's warped logic in the making), Transformers which kind of transformed my perception of comics-turned-movies and also Hot Fuzz which was pure simple humour - a good combination of slapstick and wit rolled into a surprisingly fast-paced movie (set in the conuntryside). Oh yea, PC also decided to give me troubles with blue screens and auto-restarts, all thanks to my ATI Radeon 9600 Graphics Card and its not so updated driver. Thanks man. But I think I kind of fixed it liao, I hope. It's not giving me problems for now. In fact, I'm blogging from it as we speak heh. Hope it stays that way or else my poor com would beleft untouched and she may choose to practise some infedility on me *gasP* Now we wouldnt want that to happen right.... So lately I've been mugging at JE library in preparation for law school which starts in less than a month! Pls dun roll ur eyes k, I'm very positive that I'm not the only one doing it since I thnk someone tried to hide a book on the Law of Torts from the JE library. Hmmz. Ya lor, and I've been Neopet-ting lately too. Can't blame a poor bloke searching for free online entertainment eh? K lor, that's all for now. Nothing interesting to really share. Maybe when shcool starts I can start bitching again. heh. Luvin it. Labels: JE Library, Mugging, Neopets Terence pens his legacy at 12:01 PM Long time back Ok so I've actually been back for some time le... since tuesday morning. But of ocurse, everyone knows I can get really lazy sometimes and it happened to kick in after my trip (you know the routine, jet lag, unpacking, getting things back on track, catching up on things you missed etc) and so I didn't come over to blogger to share my trip heh heh. Anyway I will try to post some pics. Apparently the previous time I tried to post some pics about my phuket trip the photos failed to appear in my post (WTH is wrong with blogger?! FIX IT!) so lets keep my fingers crossed (a la the double T in the word LOTTO, which is very very obviously strewn across so many public betting outlets in Perth) and hope the photos appear this time. Ok so I'll just highlight the really fun things. I actually kept a diary of the first few days of my trip but got lazy and tired nearing the end. I'll just take excerpts from there la hor. I dun want to bore the daylights out of everyone. You know how long-winded I can get haha. Day 1 14 May Monday So we left singapore at 1.20 in the morning, yes a very odd timing, but since it was SIA's promotion, they only limited the outgoing flights (and the incoming flights too for that matters) to the midnight flights. And so I was watching "Music and Lyrics" starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore during the flight and I just have to squeeze this in: I thought the movie was fabulous. I missed it when it was showing in Singapore in March and I was so so glad to able to catch it on the SIA flight. Yup, that and also the 2 meals we had (well actually it was one main meal where I chose the nasi lemak option and one snack item where I had this hot minced chicken pastry roll thingy) actually took up a big portion of the 5 hour flight where I remember telling myself to get a little bit of sleep to prepare myself for the upcoming day but whcih I did not do. Well I tried to get some sleep, but you know the drill: crying babies, cabin lights, the noise of people shuffling their way to the toilets etc. It just wasn't working for me. So I ended up with no sleep. Zilch. Maybe ard an hour where I did close my eyes and TRIED to sleep, but actual sleep.... none. And boy did that kick it later when we arrived in Perth. Ok, the airport was disappointingly small, but as Lionel pointed out, not many ppl fly to Perth anywayz so why the need for a big airport right? I mean it's only like one building compared to Changi's 2 (and in a few years time, 3). So we got onto an airport bus shuttle service costing us A$15 each (ouch) to take us to our hostel. We bunked at the Billabong's Backpackers Resort, which received rather rave reviews from most of it previous customers (but of course there are a few very very bad ones too la) so I was expecting a very good stay there. But the lady at the reception, Yolanda, who received us in the morning was really rude to us. She took on a very condescending tone and was very tactless in telling us we couldn't check in early. It really left a very sour tatse in my mout, that short encounter with her. i tried to be really friendly and was constantly smiling, but she did not reciprocate once. So anyway, after dumping our (very heavy) backpacks since we couldn't do early check in, we headed out towards the city at ard 8am. Went to the visitor's centre to grab a few maps and brochures, and we pit-stopped at a nearby Mac's to map out what we were going to do for the day. But sitting there (at ard 10 plus by now) we were all feeling so sleepy and I just wanted to lie down on the uncomfortable plastic seats and just doze my butt and whole body off. I was serious. But of course that would have been too unglam, so we just pulled ourselves together and dragged our lifeless bodies around town trying to do some shopping and stuff. And it was quite surprising really. The mroe we walked around town the more energetic we felt. Maybe it's the cold wind that perked us up? Who knows. But we managed to walk around thier main shopping streets of Hay and Murray Streets and also visit the Swan Tower which is supposed to be a landmark along the Swan River which flows through town. We also booked ourselves 2 day tours to the Wave Rock and the Pinnacles Desert respectively. And at around 2 plus we headed back to the hotel, via their free city shuttle service. Yes Perth is great in that it has 3 free bus services running through the town area where u can hop on anf off for free, so that really helped save a lot on transport fees. Our hostel was only a short 5 mins or so from the nearest CAT (City Area Transit) Bus stop so it helped shave ard 15 mins walk otherwise. And we were so exhausted when we got back, we slacked around and lay ard for ard 2 hours, before heading back out to town expecting to have a good dinner and do a bit more shopping. But *gasp* when we arrived back in town at ard 5.30pm, almost all the shops were already closed! And the reamining ones were closing soon. Plus the sky was getting dark, and there were groups of ppl gathering that made the streets look not too safe (they looked like hooligans of some sort) which was really freaky. I was like so used to popping over to Holland V for sme late night coffee or supper but over here that would never materialise. Which was a shame really. So Ly and I settled for Hungry Jack's takeaway and headed back to the hotel for a very early night. Which was just as well since our bodies needed that extra rest. Day 2 15 May Tuesday Ok so the day started early cuz we had to get ready for the tour pickup at 7.10am. And after that we were brought to our tour bus where we set off for the Wave Rock day tour. First stop, York, a small quaint town with fab architecture. Very colonial in a way and quaint. It has a certain old charm to it... thanks to the european influences. But it wasn't as much as I expected it to be, so actually the short 1/2 stop was all that was needed to get a feel of it. This was the York Town Hall. Cool aye? Below is the York Post Office. Terence pens his legacy at 12:07 PM I'm in KALGOORLIE! Yea man. What are the odds that I would get to blog from this small little town? Next to zero I tell ya. Bumped into some very nice samaritians who moved here temporarily to work and I am now in the father's office using his internet. heh. I shall elab more in my post when I get back to Singapore. Cheers mate! Labels: Kalgoorlie, probability Terence pens his legacy at 5:56 PM I love my songs... Been listening to the radio quite a bit lately... mostly, well actually totally, through the web (via 987fm's website). And there's a plethora of great hits that have been flooding the airwaves, many of which I really yearn to download. But alas, in line with the "I will try my best to not knowingly commit a crime" resolution I made after a certain traumatic experience, I have willed myself to not download or torrent it or whatever. At least not illegally that is. And it's painful, to listen to songs that you really love and not being able to download it into your PC and then transfer it to your MP3 player - it's excruciating! Argh... So I thought of the next best alternative - to buy tracks from legal music websites online. And they had betetr be credible right? Or else you may get ripped and not even know it, or even worse, breach any regulations unknowingly. So I went to check out Yahoo! Music (credible enough bah) and guess what? Their songs are pretty down-to-date! I was like "Argh! Don't you guys stock up on songs fast? You should include these songs in your inventory while it's still hot and making its presence in the charts, and not wait till people are over it. Strike while the iron's hot man!" But sadly my thoughts can only travel so far. Not over to the US. So nevermind, I shall just contend with listening to it on the radio. Or if my ears are really itchy, I just might pop over to youtube and listen to the song from there; and maybe put it on re-loop the whole day long until I get sick of it, and tah-dah! My problem is solved! Hah. Bags packed almost to fruition; research almost completed; nearly ready to head off to perth in 2 days time! Yea yea yea! Although the price I had to pay was pretty high (kind of in both senses of the word, I think...) I hope it's well worth it. Cheerios! Labels: download, illegal, songs, youtube Terence pens his legacy at 4:00 PM Oops I did it again! No that was referring to my weak mental strength and resilience when it comes to attempting to resist desserts. Not being able to forget the sweet pleasure and sensationw which engulfed me when I was eating the banana fritters with coconut ice cream two sundays ago at Thai Express, I went back there last friday with LS and ordered, guess what? The banana fritters with coconut ice cream! Lol... So it was last friday when LS and I went to Lido to catch Spiderman 3. First about the movie... Hmm... well I wouldn't day it was a bad show but with the all the hype created and with the very promising trailer, I would have expected something better. Don't get me wrong, it was lacking anything. It was in fact, over-saturated with plots, (new) characters, fighting scenes (ok, gotta love fighting scenes, a lot is good...). It just made me feel like too much was happening. There was Topher Grace as the wannabe-photog for the paper, and then getting humiliated by Toby Maguire when his fake photo of Spiderman stealing something I think was exposed to the Boss and he was thus fired, and along with it a building frustration and hatred and a yearning for revenge takes over. And he so conveniently is at the right place at the right time when Maguire rips off his Venom suit only to allow the particles to drip downwards and onto Grace who subsequently becomes Spidey's evil twin brother, Venom. Then we also have, as a nother villain, Thomas Hayden Church as a runaway convict who escapes from jail, presumably from being linked to a bank robbery cum death of an old man who was at the scene, who, gasps, conveniently turns out to be Uncle Ben, Maguire's dead uncle! So it so happens that Church was running away from the cops and so happens to find himself climbing over a wired, barbed fence (with no bruises or cuts whatsoever) and he so happens to turn his head backwards as he misses his step and falls into a sand pit where the Institute of Quantum whatever happens to be running an experiment and he happens to get sucked and demoleculerised and transforms into the shapeshifting sandman! Talk about dreams coming true... And he so happens to need to get money for his daughter who is terminally ill and needs money for treatment and so he goes around robbing banks. And then we have the New Goblin, played by Franco, who if you remember, has accused Parker of killing his father the Green Goblin in the previous installments of the movie. And when he engages Parker in a fierce fighting sequence flying and whizzing through the streets, he happens to get "tripped" by Parker's line (so kiddsh but hey it worked!) and goes into temp memory loss... and so he forgets the feud and readily accept Parker's and Dunst's (Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson) friend ship as per those good ol' high school days. And he so happens to regain his memory so quickly that Parker does not even know it yet (probably cause he's too busy fighting off Sandman) and thus allowing Franco to sabotage Parker's and Dunst's evry fragile, very on-and-off relationship. And then we have Bryce Dallas Howard (did I get the order right?) who plays Gwen who Parker happens to save from a collapsing building and who happens to be the Police Force Mayor's daughter and thus they throw a Spidey- Day thingy parade for him. And this angers Dunst as she is struggling with her own issues about fame and popularity after being cut from her theare production. We also see Parker getting transformed into evil Spiderman (with the balck spandex suit and all) after a meteorite conveniently crashes into the park near where Parker and Dunst where making out and which follows Parker home. But we are also treated to a funnier side of the show when Parker attempts to act cool and John Travolta-like when he goes shopping downtown and trying to impress the passers-by chicks with his hip thrusting gyrations, only to receive "What the hell is he doing" stares back from these chicks. So anyway, with all that's happening, it all culminates in one final battle where the SAndman and Venom has tagged-team to finish Parker off. There's all these effects which probably add up to the estimated $30 billion cost spent on the show. And as usual, the protagonist wins it all, with his leading lady in his rams as the sun rises in the sky and a brand new day begins..... One big issue I have is the hype the show created about "The Greatest Battle Lies Within". To be honest, the show did not really talk much about this "battle within" as much as I would have liked it to, plus it would probably give Maguire a chance for an Oscar if they had allowed him more screen time for his character development what with all the internal struggles. But, with so much happening in the movie, it's no wonder Maguire has not so much time and attention for himself unlike the previous 2 instalments. The greatest battle then I would say for audiences watching the show in cinemas would be to stay silent and still and try very hard to follow the twists and turns in the plot a la a spider web (or go study one if it helps), which obviously was a very hard battle to win for a very noisy group of caucasian kids who laughed when Maguire was crying and who made so much noise rustling about. I give it 3 stars. :) Phew, after that long tirade I'm gettign tired (is it any wonder lol). As sual slakcing it out at home,a nd also preparing to pack my stuff for a 8 day long holiday I'm embarking on next Sunday night (well technically Monday morning cause the flight's at 1 am), all thanks to SIA's 60th anniversary promotion aloowing for such cheap flights to 6 destinations, of which we picked Perth! Really hope to have a blast of a good time there, and bring back many picture-perfect phots and memories! Ciao! Labels: Desserts, Holiday, Spiderman 3 Terence pens his legacy at 2:21 PM Gear Up! No, I'm not aksing ppl to gear up for anything, or myself for anything either. Hmm.... on second thoughts maybe that Nokia N95 challenge. But anyway, I think I kind of just upped one gear on my tuitioning... by taking up a JC1 econs student LOL. Yea, I kind of told myself last year to take it easy on the tuitioning, and to refrain myself from taking up JC students because it would need more preparation than others, but alas... the message just escaped me? I didn't put it in a time capsule??? But I need the money anyway. It's sad... being a victim of this whole rat race "I need to earn lots and lots of money" racecourse, but at the same time, I can't say for sure how long I can last with a disposable income of $60 *gasp*. Well, it's as bad as one point in 2005 where it hit $1 plus. That was super.... (insert some dramatic word which is synonymous with bankrupt). Anyway, had lots of fun meeting some friends today. First in the afternoon sprawling over the travel guide section in Kino looking for the perfect destination to escape to with a budget and balancing Paris and Angkor. Yes, one of my friends wanted to go to Paris; the other, Angkor Wat. Hmm... I'll give you (and them) some time to reconcile. But eventually we decided on Australia, and now we fretting over what to do there. So yes, it made for a really tiring day reading and flipping and talking and getting exasperated at certain points in time (for me). Thank goodness we had a Mac's break in between or I would have vommitted blood (along with some gastric juice since I skipped lunch... would be an ugly sight). I had the Double Fillet-o-fish which honestly wasn't what I expected. And I certainly did not fall in love (case in point: their advert) with the it, well the price at least. $4.45 ala carte. I was like WTH?! It used to be $3.80! (a few years back tho). So ya, back to it. I then met another group of friends in the evening for dinner at the fabulous Thai Express, and I must say, their desserts are WICKED! I'll leave it at that. Go try it. Lurve the banana fritters with coconut ice cream. How can you not love the hot-cold, fried-sweet, easy-melting-xrisp combination? Love it love it love it!!!! That's gonna add some calories, but hey, it you've got to add it, must as well make it come from something heavenly! Feeling weary now. Havent showered (eeks). Gotta get to bed soon. Oh wait a minute. I don't evem have school or work tmr hor. LOL. Nvm then. Labels: Desserts, ice cream, Thai Express, Tuition Terence pens his legacy at 12:37 AM |
